Forgiveness Is A Choice
Matthew 6:14-15 KJV For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Matthew 18:21-22 KJV Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Rambler - A wise man will make haste to forgive, because he knows the full value of time and will not suffer it to pass away in unnecessary pain.
- H. Chapin - Never does the human soul appear so strong and noble as when it forgoes revenge and dares to forgive an injury.
Hannah More - A Christian will find it cheaper to pardon than to resent. Forgiveness saves the expense of anger, the cost of hatred, the waste of spirits.
John Claypool tells a very troubling story in a book he wrote on preaching (The Preaching Event, 1980). There were two twin brothers that were inseparable as kids. They attended the same school, wore the same clothes, and primarily enjoyed the same activities. When they grew up, they took over the family business - a store - and worked so well together that they were the envy of the entire community.
There came a day that a customer came into the store and purchased some merchandise for a dollar. The brother who waited on him took the money and placed it on top of the cash register. He then accompanied the customer to the front of the store and bid him good-bye. A while later, he returned to the cash register and noticed the dollar was missing. When he asked his brother if he had put the bill in the register, he said he had never seen it.
